acculturation, 2019
Acculturation can be described as the process of adapting to a culture, a different set of values, and customs. As an immigrant, acculturation is adjusting to a new environment without sacrificing a part of your own cultural identity. It is to feel alienated, and the vulnerable state of un-becoming to conceivably one day become fully.
After emigrating to the United States I lost my sense of self, and it is through these photographs of unfamiliar places that I have been able to find comfort. I use the face of the city, nature, and friends as a medium to portray my self-being. A selfless self-portrait.
